| Tennisellenbogen (Epicondylitis)
|
It does not affect only tennis players - true to its name, the epicondylitis
humeri radialis, to give its medical term. Generally, a tennis elbow
results from continuous strain on the elbow and with special load
on the extensor, caused by intensive sport activities or even continuous
heavy work. There is minimum injury, small tears in the tendon that
can be caused with flammable reactions.
Typical symptoms: Penetrating pain particularly on joint movement
or pressure starting from the elbow region and over the entire arm.
Often, there is severe pain even when forming a fist. In reality,
this is explained by the fact that the muscles responsible for moving
fingers and wrist partly originate at the small bone joint on the
outside of the elbow.
The treatment
If immobilisation and anti-inflammatory medication does not produce
the desired results, only a surgical procedure will help in stubborn
cases. The popular surgical procedure today which produces very good
results in about 70% cases is the Wilhelm based denervation operation.
Here a specific painful nerve is denerved in the original region of
the extensor musculature. After the operation, the upper arm must
be rested for 2-weeks. Then a follow-up with physiotherapy. |
