Sulkus ulnaris syndrome / SUS

This damage to the nerve pressure (N. ulnaris) in its course (Sulkus = groove) from the upper to the under arm in the elbow region can be due to bruises, bone changes after breakage or other joint injury, arthrosis, space constriction due to tumours etc.

The possible consequences: Among others, slight to serious damage to sense of touch especially in the 4th and 5th finger, pain in the hollow of hand, in the under arm or even in the elbow, decline in the dexterity in the area of the tips as well as decrease in the power of the hand.

The treatment
If the ailment has shown no improvement after a conservative therapy, generally a surgical procedure is needed. Here, the pressure on the concerned nerve is removed, possibly, it might be necessary to relocate it or to re-embed it. The elbow joint needs to be rested for approx. 1 to 3 weeks. Then a follow-up with physiotherapy.
