Handchirurgie
The wedging in of the centre hand nerve in the wrist tunnel, technical term: Carpal tunnel, can cause agonising pain, numbness, and falling asleep of the thumb, pointed and middle finger, clumsiness while doing precise tasks etc. The so-called carpal tunnel is formed by the bony groove of the wrist bone as well of the diagonal hand ligament.

The treatment
Measurements will tell us the severity of the ailment: In light cases, first the antiswelling drugs, inserting a special rod and similar procedures can provide relief. For more serious cases, only a surgical procedure can help restore feeling to the finger tips. The operation is standard procedure in experienced hands and - depending on the indication - is carried out open or with endoscope. In the conventional open procedure, under local or general anaesthesia, the cross wrist ligament is fissured above the carpal tunnel and thus cannot restrict the nerve in its function in the truest sense of the term. A fixed bond is applied, whereby the fingers must be able to move immediately, however the wrist takes approx. 5 to 10 days.
In the endoscopic operation, a very small cut is made on the wrist (1) and the operation is carried out using endoscopic instruments. AdvanDays of the endoscopic procedure: The scar later is almost invisible in the hand bend fold. However, the choice of the method always depends on the respective requirements.
