Handchirurgie
Finger rheumatoid arthritis is caused by wear of one or more joints in the finger or the thumb region. This malady is not to be confused with inflammatory rheumatism. The causes can be seen in an inherent malformation of the joint cartilage with a lessened ability to cope with strain and thus quicker wearout. Middle-aged women are often affected.

The ailment is expressed in the region of the end joint with the formation of hard lumps, cysts and unstable joint conditions. In addition, the centre joint is characterised by a spindle-shaped, partly taut elastic, partly round swelling of the joint which goes along with pain and flexor restrictions. Arthrosis of the thumb joint are first noticed by pain under strain, later it can causing bulging of the thumb bone.

The treatment
Depending on the degree of pain and the effects, the patient can decide on a surgical procedure whereby arthrodesis, resection anthroplastic and endoprothesis are possible. The decision must be made by the concerned patient. For rhizarthrosis, the procedure described above is used.
